He developed the international classification system for grouping intraocular retinoblastoma that is now in general use. Dr. Murphree holds several patents. One of his inventions, the RetCam®, is a digital hand-held wide-angle retinal imaging system currently used in neonatal intensive care units and in operating rooms around the world for the diagnosis and documentation of both retinopathy of prematurity and retinoblastoma.
